Dr. Shanbom
Steven A. Shanbom M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract and refractive surgery. He attended Wayne State University School of Medicine, followed by residencies in internal medicine and ophthalmology at Sinai hospital in Detroit. Dr Shanbom has the rare combination of board certification in both internal medicine and ophthalmology. Dr Shanbom served as chief resident and received the prestigious H. Saul Sugar M.D. award given to the resident most dedicated to education. He has served as an assistant professor at Kresge Eye Institute and Michigan State University.
Dr Shanbom has extensive experience in refractive surgery. He has performed over 30,000 successful vision correction procedures. While at Sinai Hospital, he was involved in the FDA trials of the Excimer laser used for Lasik eye surgery. He continues to stay at the forefront of refractive surgery by lecturing and attending seminars on the latest surgical procedures.
Dr Shanbom has been named an Hour magazine Top Doc numerous times and is a member of the Top Doc Hall of Fame. Dr Shanbom performs Advanced Cataract Surgery, Lasik, PRK, and refractive implant surgery. He also treats glaucoma and diabetic eye disease.
Dr Shanbom is a Lasik patient himself, having his surgery in 1999. He now enjoys excellent vision without glasses, and can better appreciate the needs and expectations of his patients. Outside of work, Dr. Shanbom enjoys spending time with his family, golf, boating, classic cars and yoga.
Dr. Salter
Amanda Salter, M.D. is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist. Her focus is in general ophthalmology for all ages, with a special interest in cataract surgery, LASIK, and dry eye. She has additional expertise in management of glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and cosmetic botox treatments.
Dr. Salter was born and raised in suburban Detroit. She graduated from the University of Michigan and received her medical degree from New York University. She completed her ophthalmology residency in the Ivy League at Brown University, in Providence, Rhode Island, serving as chief resident. During her residency, she authored several ophthalmic publications. Board-Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Salter is also a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Salter has been named an Hour magazine Top Doc multiple times. She is also on staff as an attending at Beaumont Hospital and St. John Hospital.
Outside of work, Dr. Salter enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, cooking, yoga, and watching funny movies.
